Why does Chrome (Windows) occasionally perform slowly or timeout?

We’ve combed the Google forums, and found this remedy which has helped some of our users:
  1. In Chrome, click the “wrench” icon in the upper-right, and select “Options”
  2. On the left side of the Options page, select “Under the Hood”
  3. Under section “Network”, click the button “Change proxy settings…”
  4. In the Internet Properties window which opens, click the button “LAN settings” (Figure 1)
  5. In the LAN Settings window which opens, ensure that the “Automatically detect settings” checkbox is not checked (Figure 2); and click OK
Also, be sure that Chrome is up-to-date (click the wrench icon and select “About Google Chrome” – Chrome should automatically update if needed).

The fine print: This remedy has helped Roadmap users as well as the wider Chrome user-base. Yet, best to check with your IT staff (if applicable) before making the change. Roadmap / PPMLite, LLC cannot take responsibility for any problems arising from this change.
